Port Harcourt artistes built foundation of Afrobeats– Duncan Mighty claims

Singer, Duncan Mighty has claimed that he and other artists from Port Harcourt laid the foundation for today’s Afrobeats.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Duncan Mighty explained that artists from Port Harcourt, such as himself, Timaya, Burna Boy, and Omah Lay, have influenced the Afrobeats scene in a way that the slags and sounds of the city have been incorporated into the genre.

“In almost every Afrobeats song today, you can hear the Port Harcourt influence, especially the Ikwerri slangs.

“I, Burna Boy, Timaya, Omah Lay, and Port Harcourt sound built the foundation of today’s Afrobeats,” he claimed.

Duncan Mighty’s claims sparked mixed reactions, with many countering him for “overemphasising” Port Harcourt and its artistes’ influences on Afrobeats.
